I created this topic because well I think its a very good question. I dont think it should be determined by first call first get I think thats total bull shit. Honestly I let people do what they want but this no matter what build no matter what I farm ping here every single game kind of gets annoying sometimes. I honestly think some people should stop to think strategicly speaking why they want that spot?

Lets divide it by names lets call the lane where your by the flag the Flag Lane. Lets call the lane with the short walk between the two camps the short lane and lets call the lane with the long walk between camps the long lane. Can you think if you were going to make a real team of 3v3 who should farm where? Most just pick whatever and call and say this is my spot with no thought what so ever. Im saying its time you do think.

Now what type of build would you put in the flag lane?
What type of builds should farm the short lane?
What type of build should farm the long lane?

Writing this up because Im bored. Also I like to annoy people from time to time Im not sure if any of you have caught on to that yet lol.

Now what type of build would you put in the flag lane?
this depends on what modes are picked, if its extreme creeps then the hero who can farm the longest without having to leave the spot should be up here. if it is normal creep spawns, then the fastest person should be up here, not a slow hero like paladin that will waste a minute going back to base or to another spawn.
What type of builds should farm the short lane?
this should always be the hero strongest in pvp. your closer to the enemy then any of the other lanes, so the odds of getting ganked are probably alot higher. however in some extreme creeps game i would put the hero who can stay out the least ammount of time here.
What type of build should farm the long lane?
whoever isnt the description of the other two lanes goes here, its not short, not long, not easy to gank, but not hard. the person here should pay attention to the fast lane alot incase the other team attempts to gank your fast lane man.


this is what i would do but nobody ever listens anyway so why bother telling people Neutral

Okay that is interesting. So the carry should be the fast/shortlane the nuker/ganker should be the long lane and the flag laen should go to either your passive guy or back up carry?

Lets see if we can map this out theory craft let me throw out some builds on the same team and see who should be where and why. Lets Assume the game modes are 10 sec spawn, unlimited weapons, and thats it. But if you want you can assume its no modes I like that one myself because I get to laugh at how bad so many are at it. Who goes where and why? Ignore if the teams or builds fail etc...

Illidian (Corruption, Spike Armor, Immolation,Reinc)
Far Seer (Tents, Spike Armor, Rejuve,Reinc)
Preist ( Flame Strike, Slow Ward, Bash, Demon Spawn)

Death Knight (Maggic Barrage, Vortex, Restore, Reinc)
Battle Mage (Death Pulse, Stun Feild, Bash, Mana Sheild)
Dark Elf (Soul Burn, Evasion, Endurance, Crit Master)


Siren (Shock Wave, Wind Walk, Rejuve, Wraith of Hell)
Ranger (Pulverize, Slow Ward, Endurance, Avatar)
Sea Witch (Fire Ward, Befuddle, Gaudain Ward, Mana Sheild)

Timmy (Dragon Punch, Wind Walk, Immolation,Avatar)
Far Seer (Soul Burn, Spike Armor, Acid Drop, Reinc)
Slithery (Vamp,Spike Armor, Gaurdian Ward, Avatar)

This is a great question, and you're right, this is something that should be given thought but that is often overlooked. If you have the opportunity to talk strategy with your team, this can make a big difference...

Imso covered a lot of what I would say, but I would add that the "short lane" should usually be taken by the build that is most capable of pushing through multiple spawns without needing a long time or a trip back to base in between. A low-cooldown farming skill, for example, can be used to its full potential on the two or even all three spawns on the upper portion of the map.

Other than that the reasoning behind your choices of spawn would be based on more specific factors, but, in general, using some thought and common sense should be enough to dictate your choices... for example, if you have Death Pulse, you want to avoid creeping at "Flag Lane", since the creeps will be spread out and not as susceptible to its effects. And if you have something like Meteor Storm, you should make sure to take advantage of its wide range; even if you've let someone else have the "short lanes" you should ask them to borrow them for a moment so that you can take out two spawns in one cast.

This kind of thing really does make a huge difference in efficiency.

as accursed can attest; I often will give up my claimed lane to someone who can benifit more.

In general, I tell faster heroes to take further lanes. In some cases (like a timmy with death pulse) I will give up my close spawn, and take to the middle spawns, or even top spawn; allowing timmy, who I know will have a very strong end game, to keep up the pace.

for the top spawn, I would suggest a hero with good longevity, and single unit creeping skills. Say you go a mostly passive build with rejuv or life drain or something, take the top spawn.

If you have arthas, or one of the slow ass heroes, Your skill build doesnt matter, you get the closest spawns.

If someone has ganking skills, but wants to level, give them a close spawn also. ganking skills generally mean `where did my mana go` and a ganker is usually fast. they can sprint in and out of the base for heals, nuke a shit-ton, and go back. If the gankers are looking to gank, they get mid spawn, so it is a short run to gank a neighbor.

If someone is taking one for the team and going a full healer build, or full support build, to benifit the team; they get whatever spawn they want, and you give them any spare gold they ask for.

Someone with a decent farming build, a longevity-based farming build, send them top or to the middle if more needing people are using the close spawns. If you can cast your farming skill 4-5 times before needing to heal, then take a mid spawn.

Anyone who can take 2 spawns should go top mid. Why mid? because, they should use their extra farming ability to annoy the hell out of the other team, and get a few creep kills. chain light a guy farming, he loses 1/3 his life, and you jack a few kills. Not a bad strat.

If it is a throw up between what type of hero gets what, you can either swap it back and forth occasionally, or determine who gets it based on move speed.

Another thing on spawn swapping, If you are a caster, and got a full spawn of immunes, swap spots with a passive hero who isnt gonna be stalled by the `no casting` barrier.

i agree with glorn i think the fastest heros should take the 2 farthest spawns and the slowest hero should take the closest one so that they dont waste time walking back and forward because every second counts in cha..
