Sorry guys my computer is now a paperweight the mother board cooked while I was working. I am going to get a new computer eventually but at the moment I can’t afford the one I want. so ill see if I can talk on the forums till I can get it but its probably going to be a while so if you want to kick me from the clan I would a appreciate it if you didn’t but no hard feelings if so.

join the crowd man, im on a temporary fix right now since im using a trial period of vista on my old pc...priced my new build last night...$970 if i go with the interl i7 920...

Mines going to cost some where in the range of 2.5 grand the I am getting an Intel xeon quad possessor which is well over half the price I do this ever time I buy a computer that way it will carry for a very long time. I know it sounds unnecessary but if you consider the fact that my last computer was 1.5k 10 years ago and it’s lasted this long its completely necessary. To be honest it’s going to cost 3.5 but I am getting employee discount.
I am over half way there should have it in the next comming months but im not going to put any money in to getting on in that time.

hmm.. I will sell either of you my computer for 300; you pay for shipping! To re-buy everything in it would cost around 500. (costed 800 when it was bought; equal to a 1400 dollar dell at the time)

On a smarter note; I hope you are both building your own computers; rather than attempting to buy one from a store; because your 2500 dollar computer bought at... ANY store; is really worth 1800-1900. With alienware cut the actual price in half :p

yea my 970 was...low lol bad math and missing a new video card... new estimate is closer to 1500.

my current debate is do i save the hundred bucks and go with the Phenom II over the i7-920, or do i spend the extra money knowing that the mobo's for i7's are definitely more prepared for the future, and can hold better stuff right now as well. also I am going to try to setup 4 80gb, 7200rpm HDs in a Raid 10 format. I had my pc that broke running in Raid 0 so i figure I will try to step it up a notch. also my cost isnt nearly as high as others probably because the most graphics heavy game im playing is...wc3...lol. The high power stuff I would be doing is video rendering from my HD camera which my previous pc couldn't do at all. im currently awaiting the wife's opinion on the matter.

Also where is it you work where you get such fantastic discounts? I always do my buying on newegg.

I recently helped my brother build a computer... It can play any game out in high quality; and was under 1000; including windows 7.

difference is; he went with the phenom II. there is that really popular one out, the quad core, 3.0, black edition w/e. Really high powered for its cost. He had the same debate about i7; but right now, i7 isnt worth the cost. If you had another 4 months to wait, I`m sure an i7 set up would cost half of what it does now.

Realistically speaking, it is cheaper to spend 1000 on a computer now; and get a new computer in 3 years, for another 1000; than to try to build a computer that will still be `good` 6 years from now; technology moves too fast to try to stay ahead of the curve. all that money you spend on running your RAID hard drives when solid-state hard drives become commonly used; which is like the difference between using a cat-4 network cable compared to fiber optics.

Not trying to demotivate either of you; but look at what was considered `top of the line` a year ago.... a 1 gig DDR3 video card was AMAZING, 800 dollars. Now a 1 gig DDR5 with similar attributes is 150.

yea the 'upgrades' im talking about are that the mobo is supposed to be compatible with intels next gen of chips and it can handle the faster RAM in triple channel vs double channel. I agree with you, if my computer can last 3 years I am happy. But if I can then add more memory which at that point should be dirt cheap like ddr2 is now, and maybe even the next incantation of Intel's chips and buy myself a couple more years before the whole system is just a dinosaur, that's worth the cost difference between the AMD and the 920 (about 100 bucks). Although one thing i am trying to determine...how does one set of triple channel 2200 ram totaling 6gbs compare to 2 sets of dual channel 1600 ram totaling 8gbs?

I got the money after working 2 days in a row thank god for work lights ill be on in about 2 weeks for all the parts to come and yes glorn i am building my own. so much for being off a while but sadly ill be still on only 1 to 2 days a week cuz it wasent cheep.
